My Best Friend Is A Book

"Never tear a book, because once you did, you can't read it again." My dad used to tell me when he's still alive. He didn't like seeing us tearing it apart, because for him it's the greatest possession a person can have. Books store knowledge that none can give. It takes us to places we never dream of, and books inspire us. I guess loving books and reading are the only things my dad and I share in common.

For me my books are my best friends, unlike my other friends, they're not fraud and they don't betray me or leave me behind, they neither bad mouthed nor back stabbed me. My books listen to me, they comfort me when I'm in sorrow and they do understand me all the time, plus they're always by my side, through my ups and downs. Books are not just objects. We thought that they're JUST OBJECTS, but NO! Books have feelings too, they cry and get hurt as well. They also howl in pain, whenever they are being thrown out. Who said that they don't. Have tried to listen to them? They also complain like humans when not treated properly. Have you considered their feelings? I guess not! It is like your passion for collecting dolls and you treat them as if they are your children, you take them to bed and take care of them and you would insist that they have feelings too.

Lots of people asked me how many books I've read so far? I begun to wonder as well, if I would track back from when I learned how to read, perhaps I've read hundreds already, but of course I'm not so sure about it. Never been sure. I've learned to read at the age of four and the very first story I've read was "Cinderella", I know that every kids know about her story, until now that I'm sixteen, I'm still reading and I never stop.

A friend of mine asked me how did I pick my book, because whenever she would borrow some from me, she always commented that the stories are really great. I actually frowned at her when she asked me, because I never considered my books as objects, that you just pick up from a rack and then you'll take it to the counter for you to pay. It is never that way. My best friends choose me and it's like magic, as if we're meant to be, as if I am destined to save them from that ugly bookstore wherein the sales ladies never dust them. They speak through my heart and soul.

I want to share something, but please I'm not making other people to look bad, it's just my observation about people. I can't talk to them as if we are close, because though how hard I try, they won't understand me, they might call me crazy. I want them to care about my friends which are the books.

I meet different people everyday, some of them loves books, some love to read, some love music and some love other things. Let's say that one of ten people is a book lover and at the same time a bookworm and three out of those nine people left are bookworms. This thing sounds like statistics and it probably makes you dizzy.

In my class, ten of my classmates love to read, but none among them care for the book. Let's say that they just read the story the book contains but never bother about the book's condition, and knowing that is so dejecting isn't it? Two of those people just read because they want to show off and one of those ten people just buy books because it's cheap.

Remember this: You buy books for friendship that would never fade and for pleasure. You don't buy books because it's cheap and you should not force your friend to buy a book, that isn't chosen by them, all you have to do is recommend, never force. And the most important thing that you should know, LOVE YOUR BOOKS and TREAT THEM LIKE A BEST FRIEND OF YOURS, because they're part of your soul and love every bit of the story it tells. Another thing, don't ever consider the price in buying a book, because the lesson and the pleasure you'll gain from that book would be priceless.

Love your books my dear friends, treat them as your best friends!
